Step-by-Step Process to Create a Form in ActiveCampaign

In ActiveCampaign, forms are available for all the pricing plans of marketing and sales. Let’s take a look at the steps to create a form:

Step 1: Create a Form

  • Log in to your ActiveCampaign account and go to the ‘Forms’ overview page. 
  • At the top right corner of your screen, click on the ‘Create New Form’ button. 
  • Type the ‘Form Name’ and choose the ‘Form Style.’
  • Go to the dropdown list of ‘Form Action’ and choose from actions like ‘Subscribe to a list,’ ‘Add a tag,’ ‘Add to a deal,’ or ‘Email results.’ 
  • Click on the dropdown next to the form action, and select an option that matches your action. 
  • Click the ‘Create form’ button to load the form builder. 

Step 2: Add Fields to Your Form

Floating Box, Modal, and Floating Bar Forms

  • In this form type, you can collect the name, phone, and email (required by default) of your contacts. 
  • To use these fields in your form, in your form builder, click the ‘Options’ tab and use toggles in the ‘Fields’ section to make the phone and name fields visible on your form. 
  • Any changes you make to the form will be saved automatically. 

Inline Forms

With inline forms, you get the flexibility to collect various types of information about contacts, custom objects, and accounts. Add a field to your inline form:

  • In your form builder, ensure that the ‘Fields’ tab is selected in the right menu.
  • Choose the category of field you want to use and then click it to expand it.
  • Drag the field to the form. 

Step 3: Making Form Fields Mandatory

You can make one or more fields of your form mandatory to be filled.

Floating Box, Modal, and Floating Bar Forms

  • On the right menu of your form builder, click the ‘Options’ tab.
  • Click the ‘Required’ checkbox present on the right of the field’s name. 

Inline Form

  • Click the field you want to make mandatory in your form builder. 
  • Click the ‘Required’ checkbox. 

Step 4: Settings for Blank Fields Overwriting Existing Data

  • To prevent previously provided visitor information from showing up as blank in their profile due to omission in the current form, click the ‘Options’ tab in the form builder.
  • Go to the ‘Advanced’ section and uncheck the option of ‘Allow Blank Fields.’

Step 5: Change Default Input Field Text and Headers

  • In the form builder, click the input field that you want to update. 
  • In the right menu, you will get the option of ‘Default text’. Type the new text there. 
  • In inline forms, you will also be able to change the field header in the same way. 

Step 6: Customize Your Form

  • In your form builder, click the ‘Style’ tab on the right menu, then from ‘General’ turn off the ‘Branding’ toggle to remove the ActiveCampaign branding from your form. 
  • From the ‘Options’ tab in the right menu, you will also be able to decide how and when the form appears for site visitors. 

Step 7: Customize Form Messages

  • Choose what your visitors see when they submit the form. From the ‘Options’ tab in the right menu, go to the ‘On submit’ section and type your updated message in the box provided.
  • Here, the default setting is ‘Show Thank You.’
  • You can also direct your visitors to a site by choosing the option of ‘Open URL’ from the dropdown menu and then adding the URL in the space provided.

  • Click the ‘Integrate’ button to see all the available options for publishing your form. 
  • Modal, floating bar, and floating box forms support embed code and WordPress integration
  • Inline forms support simple and full embed code, direct link sharing, WordPress integration, and Facebook publishing.
